Unnatural Hairline Design

Overly straight, too low, or poorly designed hairlines can be corrected by adding grafts at natural irregular angles along the leading edge to soften the appearance.

Wrong Graft Direction

Grafts placed at incorrect angles that do not match natural hair growth direction. These can be addressed through camouflage grafting and in some cases extraction and re-implantation.

Insufficient Density

Thin, see-through results from underpopulated sessions. Additional grafts can be placed to build density — providing donor supply allows.

Visible Plug Scars

What recovery looks like after revision surgery

Revision follows the same biological timeline as a first transplant — with one difference: healing over old scar tissue can take slightly longer. Scarred skin carries less blood supply than untouched scalp, so grafts placed into or beside a previous scar are watched more closely in the first days after surgery.

Forehead and scalp swelling, when it occurs, follows the same pattern as any FUE or DHI procedure and settles within 3–5 days. Transplanted hairs shed 2–6 weeks after surgery — this is shock loss, not failure — and new growth begins from month 3.

Can a bad hair transplant be fixed?+

In most cases, yes — partially or fully. The key variables are how much donor area remains, how severe the damage is and what exactly went wrong. Dr. Arslan will give you a completely honest assessment of what is achievable before any commitment is made.

How long should I wait before revision surgery?+

Typically 12–18 months after the previous procedure to allow full maturation and stabilisation. Attempting revision surgery before the previous result has fully developed makes accurate planning impossible.

What is the most common reason patients need revision?+

The most common reason is surgery performed by technicians at high-volume clinics — incorrect graft angles, unnatural hairline design and poor density from insufficient grafts. This is why surgeon involvement at every step is critical.

Can the donor area be repaired if over-harvested?+

No — donor depletion is permanent. Over-harvested donor areas cannot be restored. This is why Dr. Arslan always conserves the donor supply and never over-harvests — even if a patient requests more grafts than is safe.

Graft placement follows the package: he places every graft personally in the VIP tier; in Silver and Gold, the clinic's trained medical team places them. Since technician-led placement is the most common cause of the problems patients bring to revision, this distinction matters more here than for a first procedure.

What technique is used to repair a previous hair transplant?+

Revision is almost always performed with FUE, regardless of what technique caused the original problem. Remaining donor grafts are extracted individually and placed at angles designed to blend with the existing hairline and growth pattern — known as camouflage grafting. FUT strip scars are treated by implanting grafts directly into the scar tissue to break up its smooth, hairless appearance. Scalp micropigmentation is sometimes combined with FUE when scarring or density gaps are too extensive to fully resolve with grafting alone.
