Surgery Day

Procedure Complete

All grafts placed. Scalp has micro-scabs and mild redness. You return to hotel same evening. First wash at clinic the next morning.

Days 1–7

Critical First Week

Scabs forming naturally. Forehead swelling peaks day 2–3 and resolves by day 5. Sleep elevated. Gentle daily washing from day 3. Avoid exercise.

Week 2–3

Scabs Shed, Redness Fades

Scabs naturally fall away. Most redness resolves. Return to normal daily activities and light exercise permitted.

Month 1–2

Shock Loss — Completely Normal

Transplanted hairs shed as follicles enter rest phase. This is expected and temporary. The follicle remains intact below the scalp.

Month 3

First New Growth Appears

Thin, fine new hairs emerge. Patchy and light at this stage — this is early growth, not the final result. Most patients see their first real progress.

Month 6

Significant Density Visible

Hair thickens noticeably. 50–60% of final result visible. Most patients feel confident in social settings at this point.

Month 9

Near-Final Result

80–90% of full density achieved. Hairline clearly defined and natural. Hair continues to thicken.

or Slows Down Your Timeline

The stages above describe the average patient. Your own timeline can run a little faster or slower depending on a few real factors — most of which are within your control after surgery.

Tends to Speed Growth

Smaller sessions — a hairline or crown alone rather than a full multi-zone case — tend to look "finished" sooner, simply because there is less total area that needs to fill in evenly
Sapphire FUE's finer incisions typically mean less visible redness and slightly faster surface healing in the first 2 weeks than classic FUE, though the underlying follicle growth timeline is similar across techniques (see FUE vs DHI)
Good general health and not smoking support faster healing in the first two weeks, giving follicles a better environment to resume growth on schedule
Following the aftercare schedule precisely — sleeping elevated, avoiding sun and sweat in month 1, keeping the WhatsApp check-ins — avoids the setbacks that push a timeline back

Tends to Slow It Down

Larger sessions — multi-zone cases combining hairline, mid-scalp and crown — naturally take longer to look complete, since more area needs to grow in together
More advanced hair loss (Norwood V–VII) covering a larger surface area generally reaches full density closer to month 12–14 rather than month 9
Smoking, poor sleep or high stress in the first month can slow healing and, in some patients, delay when follicles resume active growth
Skipping the wash or sun-protection instructions can prolong scabbing and redness well past the normal 2–3 week window
An unmanaged scalp condition such as seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis can extend the shedding-and-regrowth cycle — flag any scalp condition to Dr. Arslan before surgery so it is treated alongside your transplant

Is shock loss normal after a hair transplant?+

Yes — shock loss (telogen effluvium of the transplanted hairs) is completely normal and expected. Between weeks 2–8, transplanted hairs shed as follicles enter a resting phase. The follicle itself remains intact underground and will produce new permanent hair from month 3 onwards.

When can I go back to work after surgery?+

Most patients return to office work within 5–7 days. Visible scabbing and mild redness may still be present in week 1. If you work in a client-facing environment, 10–14 days gives maximum discretion.

When will I see full results?+

Most patients achieve full density between months 12–14. Crown areas may take up to 18 months for complete maturation. Results are permanent — the transplanted hair continues to grow naturally for life.

Can I exercise after a hair transplant?+

Light walking is safe from day 4–5. Light gym training from week 3. Swimming, intense cardio and contact sports should wait until month 1. Sweating into fresh grafts in the first 2 weeks risks infection and graft loss.

Who actually places my grafts — does Dr. Arslan do every one personally?+

Dr. Arslan personally opens every recipient channel himself on the Gold and VIP packages, and personally performs the extraction on the VIP package. Graft placement is done by him personally in the VIP package; in the Silver and Gold packages, his trained team places the grafts. This division of labour is explained during your consultation before you choose a package — it does not change the growth timeline described above, which is the same regardless of who places the grafts.

Is it normal for growth to look patchy or uneven between months 3 and 6?+

Yes. Follicles do not all switch back on at the same time, so it is completely normal for some areas to show visible new hair while others still look thin or empty during months 3–6. This uneven pattern is not a sign that grafts have failed — it reflects the natural staggered growth cycle. Density evens out progressively as more follicles activate, typically converging into a consistent look by months 6–9.
