The graft number myth — how it misleads patients
The most persistent misconception in hair transplant marketing: more grafts equals better results. Clinics offer "5,000 grafts for €1,200" as if the number is the value proposition. Patients compare offers by graft count as if counting screen pixels. This logic fails because: a transected graft produces zero growth regardless of claimed numbers; density without correct distribution produces patchy results; maximum sessions deplete donor supply for future needs; and naturalness has nothing to do with total graft count.
What actually determines result quality
Graft survival rate: 2,000 surviving grafts from 2,200 extracted outperforms 3,000 claimed grafts with 60% survival (1,800 viable).
Distribution strategy: Strategic distribution across hairline, mid-scalp and crown produces a coherent, natural result. Concentrating all grafts in one zone leaves others bare.
Density gradient: Natural hairlines need 35–45 grafts/cm² at the front transitioning to 25–30 grafts/cm² through mid-scalp. The gradient matters far more than total count.
