Hair Transplant and Skin Type --
How Scalp Health Affects Results

How scalp type affects hair transplant outcomes - oily, dry, sensitive, seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis.

How scalp type affects hair transplant outcomes - oily, dry, sensitive, seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis. How Hairmedico adapts protocols for each.

How different scalp types affect surgery

Oily scalp

Affects graft placement precision and slightly increases infection risk. Pre-op deep cleansing, post-op sebum-balancing serums.

Dry scalp

Reduced hydration affects skin elasticity and microcirculation. Pre-op hydration therapy recommended.

Sensitive scalp

Higher inflammatory response to trauma. Cooling gels, minimal-contact bandages. Recovery may take longer.

Seborrheic dermatitis

Active seborrheic dermatitis should be controlled before surgery. Active inflammation affects healing and may impair graft survival.

Scalp assessment at Hairmedico

Every patient receives pre-operative trichoscopy assessing follicular density, scalp hydration, microcirculation and underlying conditions. The surgical protocol adapts based on findings. This is what surgeon-led practice means in practice.

Psoriasis and hair transplant

Active scalp psoriasis must be stabilised before surgery - risk of Koebner phenomenon (trauma triggering new lesions). Once controlled for 6+ months, hair transplant is generally safe. Dr. Arslan coordinates with dermatologists for psoriasis patients. Hair Transplant Turkey | Dr. Arslan Musbeh

Questions

Common questions

How does oily or sensitive scalp affect hair transplant surgery?

Oily scalp affects graft placement precision and slightly raises infection risk, so Hairmedico uses deep pre-op cleansing and post-op sebum-balancing serums. Sensitive scalp produces a stronger inflammatory response to trauma, so cooling gels and minimal-contact bandages are used and recovery may take a little longer.

Can I have a hair transplant if I have seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis?

Active seborrheic dermatitis or scalp psoriasis must be controlled before surgery, since active inflammation impairs healing and can trigger new lesions at the surgical site (the Koebner phenomenon). Once the condition is stable for 6+ months, Dr. Arslan coordinates with a dermatologist and hair transplant is generally safe.

How does Hairmedico assess my scalp type before surgery?

Every patient receives a pre-operative trichoscopy assessing follicular density, scalp hydration, microcirculation and any underlying skin conditions. Dr. Arslan then adapts the surgical protocol to those findings — this individualised assessment is central to surgeon-led practice.
