What is FUT (strip surgery)?
FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation, also called strip surgery) involves surgically removing a horizontal strip of scalp from the donor zone, suturing the wound closed, then dissecting the strip under microscope into individual follicular units for implantation. FUT was the dominant technique from the 1990s to mid-2010s. Its primary advantage is high graft yield per session and protected follicle dissection under controlled conditions. Its definitive disadvantage: a permanent linear scar across the back of the scalp that is visible at any hair length shorter than 2–3cm.

Complete FUE vs FUT comparison
| Factor | FUE | FUT |
|---|---|---|
| Scarring | Tiny dot scars (0.75–1mm each) | Single linear scar across donor |
| Visibility at short hair | Virtually invisible | Clearly visible when shaved |
| Recovery time | 5–7 days desk work | 10–14 days (wound healing) |
| Max grafts per session | 4,500–5,000 | 4,000–5,000 |
| Donor flexibility | Any zone — body hair possible | Horizontal strip only |
| Short hairstyle compatible | Yes | No |
| Used at Hairmedico | Yes — all procedures | Not performed |
Why Hairmedico exclusively uses FUE
Dr. Arslan performs exclusively FUE and DHI for two structural reasons: FUE produces no visible linear scar — giving patients complete freedom in hair length and styling choices for life; and FUE enables precise donor zone management — extracting strategically from different zones across the entire safe area, preserving visual density and maintaining lifetime donor supply for future sessions if needed.
