How Dr. Arslan Chooses Your Technique
Every assessment starts with photographs, not a fixed menu. Dr. Arslan reviews four factors before recommending a technique: your Norwood or Ludwig stage, donor zone density and scalp laxity, hair calibre and the contrast between hair and skin tone, and the size and location of the area being restored. A patient with strong donor density and one large area to cover is assessed differently from a patient with limited donor reserve who is planning for a second session later.
Two practical constraints shape the recommendation further. If you cannot take visible downtime — for work, travel or personal reasons — unshaven FUE narrows the shave to a strip that regrowth quickly conceals. If your case will need more donor extraction than a single session can safely draw without thinning the donor zone, Algorithmic FUE™ sequences the extraction pattern to preserve reserve for a future session.
Which Technique Suits Which Case
Standard FUE is the default for large, single-session restorations where donor density is good and no special constraints apply — it is proven across the widest range of Norwood stages.
Sapphire FUE is generally preferred in the hairline and temporal zones, where the finer channel reduces tissue trauma and supports denser packing in the areas that show most.
DHI is chosen when angle and direction control matter most — hairline design, crown whorls, and cases where the recipient area allows an unshaven or minimally shaven approach.
Unshaven FUE (U-FUE) suits patients who need to return to a normal appearance immediately and whose donor hair is long enough to cover the extraction sites; it is typically recommended for smaller to mid-sized sessions rather than maximum-graft cases.
Algorithmic FUE™ is reserved for complex cases — advanced hair loss, limited donor supply, or patients planning more than one session — where the sequencing of extraction across the donor zone directly affects how much reserve remains later.
None of these are mutually exclusive. In many cases Dr. Arslan combines methods within the same session — DHI for the hairline, FUE for the mid-scalp and crown — to get the precision of one technique and the coverage of another. Any such combination is decided during your photograph assessment, not improvised on the day of surgery.
When a Technique Isn't the Right Fit
Part of the assessment is ruling technique options out, not just recommending one. The same four factors that point Dr. Arslan toward a technique also flag when it should be avoided for your specific case.
Surgeon-Led, Regardless of Technique
The technique changes the tools; it does not change who operates. Dr. Arslan personally creates every recipient channel, on every technique, for the Gold and VIP package tiers, and personally performs the extraction on the VIP tier. Graft placement is carried out by Dr. Arslan himself in the VIP tier; in the Silver and Gold packages, placement is performed by his trained team. This division is the same whether the technique used is FUE, Sapphire FUE, DHI, Algorithmic FUE™ or Unshaven FUE — the technique is a clinical decision, the surgical oversight is constant.
This split sits at the package tier, not the technique. Hairmedico's packages are built around two techniques — Sapphire and DHI — each offered in Silver, Gold and VIP tiers, and it is the tier, not the technique, that decides who places the grafts: a patient on a DHI Gold package and a patient on a Sapphire VIP package both have their recipient-channel design done personally by Dr. Arslan; only the VIP tier adds personal extraction and graft placement on top of that. Whichever technique or tier you choose, every procedure at Hairmedico is surgeon-led and unhurried, with one patient treated per day rather than several in parallel.
Recovery — Does It Differ by Technique?
The overall recovery arc is similar across all five techniques, because all are FUE-based: the donor zone heals within 7–10 days, and redness or scabbing in the recipient area resolves within 10–14 days. Two techniques shift the experience at the margins rather than the total timeline. Sapphire FUE's finer channel typically means less initial swelling and marginally faster epithelialisation. Unshaven FUE removes the visible donor-shave period entirely — not because the underlying biology heals faster, but because there is nothing visible to conceal in the first place.
