What Is Unshaven Hair Transplant (U-FUE)?
Standard FUE hair transplant requires the donor zone (back of the scalp) to be shaved to allow precise extraction of individual follicles. For patients who need to maintain their existing hair length — for professional, personal or discretion reasons — unshaven FUE offers an alternative.
In U-FUE, small sections of the donor zone are trimmed only in the specific areas where extraction will occur, while surrounding hair remains at its natural length. This hair covers the trimmed areas immediately after surgery. The result: no visible signs of surgery when leaving the clinic.
Unshaven FUE at Hairmedico. Targeted micro-trimming only at extraction sites — surrounding hair covers the area immediately.
U-FUE vs Standard FUE — Key Differences
| Factor | U-FUE (Unshaven) | Standard FUE |
|---|
| Donor shaving | Micro-trim only | Full shave |
| Visible post-surgery | No | Visible for 2–4 weeks |
| Session duration | Longer (+30–60 min) | Standard |
| Graft count limit | Up to ~2,500 | No practical limit |
Is U-FUE right for you? Unshaven FUE is best suited to patients needing up to approximately 2,500 grafts, who have sufficient hair length in the donor zone to cover extraction sites, and who have a specific discretion requirement. For larger sessions, standard FUE or a hybrid approach is typically recommended. Dr. Arslan assesses candidacy individually.
