Candidacy & Assessment
Am I a candidate for a hair transplant?
Good candidates typically have: stable hair loss (not rapidly progressing), adequate donor density at the back and sides, realistic expectations about achievable density, and are generally aged 25 or over. However, candidacy is highly individual. Dr. Arslan reviews every case personally — the best way to confirm candidacy is to submit photographs for an assessment.
How many grafts will I need?
Graft requirements depend on your Norwood stage, the area to be covered, and your natural hair calibre and density. As a general guide: Norwood III hairline restoration requires 1,500–2,500 grafts; Norwood V–VI restoration can require 3,500–5,500+. Dr. Arslan provides a precise graft estimate after reviewing your photographs — this is part of your free assessment.
What is the minimum age for a hair transplant?
Most hair transplant surgeons recommend waiting until age 25–28, when hair loss has stabilised sufficiently to plan accurately. Operating too early risks placing grafts in areas that will subsequently lose native hair, creating unnatural gaps that require further correction. Dr. Arslan assesses each case individually and will advise waiting if loss is still progressing significantly.
Can women have a hair transplant?
Yes. Women experiencing female-pattern hair loss (FPHL), traction alopecia, or hairline recession are often good candidates. The assessment differs from male cases — Dr. Arslan evaluates donor zone stability, hair characteristics and the underlying cause of loss. Unshaven techniques are available for women who wish to avoid shaving. Submit photographs for a personal evaluation.
Is there a maximum Norwood stage that can be treated?
Advanced Norwood stages (V–VII) can often be treated, but require careful planning around donor zone capacity. For Norwood VI–VII cases, Dr. Arslan may recommend Algorithmic FUE™ — a structured, strategic approach designed specifically for complex, multi-session cases. The key constraint is always the donor supply relative to the coverage required. An honest assessment will tell you what is achievable in one session versus multiple.
Techniques — FUE, DHI, Sapphire FUE
What is the difference between FUE and DHI?
Both FUE and DHI extract follicles one by one from the donor area. The difference is in implantation: FUE pre-creates recipient channels, then the grafts are placed; DHI uses a Choi implanter pen to implant each graft directly without pre-made channels. DHI allows greater control over angle and direction and is often preferred for hairline zones. Read our full FUE vs DHI comparison →
What is Sapphire FUE?
Sapphire FUE is a variation of standard FUE that uses blades tipped with sapphire (a hard, smooth gemstone) to create the recipient channels. The harder, smoother blade edge produces cleaner incisions, causes less tissue trauma, reduces post-operative swelling, and is associated with faster healing. Dr. Arslan uses sapphire blades as standard for most FUE procedures. See our full Sapphire FUE guide →
What is Algorithmic FUE™?
Algorithmic FUE™ is Dr. Arslan's proprietary methodology developed over 17 years. It applies a structured, algorithm-based approach to extraction sequencing and donor zone management, ensuring long-term donor supply is preserved across multiple potential sessions. It is particularly important for advanced Norwood cases, patients with limited donor density, and those planning their transplant with a 10–20 year horizon. See the full Algorithmic FUE™ guide →
Which technique is best for me?
Technique selection depends on your specific case — hair characteristics, area to be covered, desired density, and future loss risk. Dr. Arslan recommends the technique after personally reviewing your photographs and donor zone. There is no single "best technique" in the abstract; the right technique is the one appropriate to your anatomy. Submit photos and Dr. Arslan will confirm his recommendation.
Surgery Day
How long does the surgery take?
Most procedures at Hairmedico take 6–9 hours depending on graft count and technique. As Dr. Arslan operates on one patient per day, there is no time pressure — he takes as long as the procedure requires to achieve the optimal result. Breaks are scheduled throughout the day.
Is a hair transplant painful?
The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic. The most uncomfortable part is the initial anaesthetic injection — Hairmedico offers needle-free anaesthetic delivery (comfort injector) to eliminate this discomfort entirely. Once the area is anaesthetised, patients typically feel pressure but not pain. Post-operatively, mild soreness and tightness are normal for 2–5 days and managed with standard pain relief.
Does Dr. Arslan perform the surgery himself?
Yes. Dr. Arslan personally performs every stage of the surgery — from hairline design through extraction to final implantation. Hairmedico's one-patient-per-day policy exists precisely to make this possible. In most Istanbul clinics, a surgeon briefly oversees and technicians perform the actual procedure. At Hairmedico, there are no handoffs. Read more about our surgeon-led approach →
How many patients does Dr. Arslan treat per day?
One. A single patient per operating day, every day. This is a deliberate and non-negotiable policy. It ensures Dr. Arslan's full attention, energy and precision are directed at your procedure from beginning to end. Many high-volume clinics operate 3–8 patients per day across multiple rooms — this is incompatible with surgeon-performed surgery.
Recovery & Results
When will I see the full result?
The transplanted hair sheds at weeks 2–4 (expected — the follicle is not lost, only the shaft). New growth begins at 3–4 months. At 6 months, around 50% of final density is visible. Full results are typically seen at 12–14 months. Our 12-month follow-up programme monitors and documents your progress at each stage. See the full recovery timeline →
When can I return to work after a hair transplant?
For office or home-based work, most patients return within 5–7 days. The scalp will appear pink with small scabs in the first week — these resolve by days 10–14. We recommend avoiding physical labour, sweating, and direct sun exposure for 3 weeks. Most patients choose to work remotely for the first week; by day 10–14, the initial signs are largely resolved.
Why is my transplanted hair falling out?
Shock loss (telogen effluvium) at weeks 2–4 is a completely normal and expected part of the process. The transplanted hair shaft detaches, but the follicle — now implanted in its new location — remains alive and enters a resting phase before producing new growth. This is not a sign of failure. New hair growth typically resumes at 3–4 months. If you experience unexpected loss, contact our follow-up team for reassurance.
Will the results last permanently?
Transplanted follicles from the permanent donor zone (back and sides) are genetically resistant to DHT — the hormone responsible for male-pattern loss. Once established, they will produce hair for life. However, native (non-transplanted) hair may continue to thin over time. Dr. Arslan's hairline design accounts for this progression, ensuring the transplanted result remains natural-looking even as the surrounding native hair thins.
Safety & Turkey
Is hair transplant in Turkey safe?
Safety is clinic-dependent, not country-dependent. Turkey has produced some of the world's leading hair transplant surgeons alongside poorly regulated, volume-oriented clinics. The four questions to ask any clinic: (1) Does the surgeon perform the entire procedure? (2) How many patients per day? (3) Is the clinic Ministry of Health licensed? (4) Is the surgeon a member of FUE Europe or equivalent? See our full Turkey safety guide →
How do I check if a clinic is Ministry of Health accredited?
Legitimate Turkish clinics hold a licence from the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Health (T.C. Sağlık Bakanlığı). You can request the clinic's licence number and verify it via the official Ministry of Health registry. Hairmedico is fully accredited. We provide our licence documentation to patients upon request.
What is FUE Europe membership?
FUE Europe is a European scientific society of hair restoration surgeons. Membership requires verifiable surgical experience, adherence to ethical practice standards, and a commitment to professional development. Dr. Arslan Musbeh is a full FUE Europe member — one of a relatively small group of Turkish surgeons to hold this distinction.
Cost & Package
How much does a hair transplant cost at Hairmedico?
Hairmedico provides pricing on request following a personal case assessment. Pricing is based on your specific graft count and technique — not a fixed price-per-graft model. All packages are all-inclusive: surgery, 5-star hotel (2 nights), VIP airport transfers, PRP treatment, LOREW aftercare kit and 12-month follow-up. See our full packages page →
What is included in the package?
All Hairmedico packages include: surgeon-performed FUE, DHI or Algorithmic FUE™ surgery · 5-star Istanbul hotel (2 nights) · VIP airport and clinic transfers · PRP (platelet-rich plasma) treatment · LOREW Paris aftercare kit · 12-month follow-up programme with Dr. Arslan's team. There are no hidden add-ons. The quoted price covers everything.
Why is hair transplant cheaper in Turkey than the UK or US?
The cost difference — typically 60–80% less for an equivalent procedure — is primarily driven by local operating costs, currency differentials and lower staff costs relative to the UK, US or Western Europe. The quality of surgery, materials, and aftercare at a premium clinic like Hairmedico is equal to or better than comparable Western procedures. Lower price does not mean lower quality; it reflects economic context. Compare the inclusions and credentials, not just the headline number.

Can I speak to Dr. Arslan before deciding?
Yes. After submitting your photographs, Dr. Arslan personally reviews them and provides a written assessment. For patients who want a video consultation before committing to travel, this can be arranged. Contact us via the consultation form or WhatsApp to request a video call.
After Surgery & Follow-up
What does the 12-month follow-up include?
The 12-month programme includes regular check-in consultations with Dr. Arslan's team at key milestones: week 2, month 1, month 3, month 6, month 9 and month 12. Progress photographs are reviewed at each stage. If questions arise between check-ins, the team is available via WhatsApp and email. The follow-up is included in every package.
How do I wash my hair after a transplant?
On day 3 post-surgery, a specific gentle wash protocol using the included LOREW shampoo begins — applying a thin layer of foam, leaving for 30 minutes, then rinsing with low-pressure lukewarm water. This routine continues daily for 10–14 days until all scabs have resolved. Full written and video instructions are provided before you leave the clinic. See our detailed post-transplant washing guide →
When can I exercise after a hair transplant?
Light walking is fine from day 3. Avoid anything that raises heart rate significantly (gym, running, sport) for 3 weeks post-surgery — elevated blood pressure increases swelling and risks dislodging unestablished grafts. Swimming in pools or the sea should be avoided for 4 weeks due to chlorine and salt exposure to the healing scalp.
