نظرة عامة ←The following are not complications — they are normal, expected parts of the healing process:

| Side effect | When | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Shock loss | Weeks 2–6 | Temporary — growth resumes month 3–4 |
| Recipient zone redness | Days 1–14 | Typically fades within 2 weeks |
| Forehead swelling | Days 2–5 | Resolves in 5–7 days; sleeping elevated minimises it |
| Scalp scabs at graft sites | Days 1–10 | Shed naturally by day 10–14 |
| Donor zone tenderness | Days 1–5 | Managed with paracetamol; resolves within a week |
| Folliculitis (pimples during growth) | Months 3–6 | Temporary; treated with warm compress if persistent |
Risk: less than 1% in accredited, properly sterilised surgical environments. Prevented by: pre-operative antibiotic prophylaxis, sterile surgical protocol, proper post-operative wound care. Signs: unusual redness, discharge or increasing pain after day 5. Action: contact the clinic immediately.
Risk: varies significantly by surgical quality. At experienced surgeon-led clinics, graft survival averages 90–95%. At high-volume technician-run clinics, survival has been documented as low as 60–70%. This is why surgeon qualification and technique matter more than any other single factor.
FUE produces tiny dot scars (0.75–1.0mm) that are invisible at most hair lengths. FUT produces a linear scar. Keloid formation at extraction sites is rare but more common in patients of African descent — a known risk factor assessed at every Hairmedico consultation.
Not a physical complication but a significant quality risk. Hairlines designed too low, too straight or with incorrect angles produce unnatural results. This is the most common reason for corrective surgery — and the most preventable with the right surgeon.
The most common side effects are temporary and expected: shock loss (weeks 2–5), redness in the recipient zone (1–2 weeks), swelling of the forehead (days 2–4), and small scabs at graft sites (days 1–10). These resolve without treatment in all cases.
Rare but possible risks include: infection (less than 1% in accredited clinics), folliculitis (temporary pimple-like eruptions during growth phase), visible donor scarring (prevented by FUE), and poor graft survival from incorrect technique. Serious complications are extremely rare in properly accredited clinics.
Hair transplant is safe for most healthy adults. Additional precautions are needed for: patients with bleeding disorders, autoimmune conditions, poorly controlled diabetes, or keloid scar history. None of these are absolute contraindications — they require pre-operative assessment and management.
