Six months post-surgery is the first point where meaningful visual assessment is possible. By month 6, approximately 50–65% of the final density is visible — enough to see the overall direction and quality of the result, but not the complete picture. Patients at 6 months typically notice: clear new growth in the transplanted zone; visible hairline definition; improved framing of the face; some areas still thinner than the final result will be.
What continues developing from month 6 to 14
Hair calibre: Early growth hairs are often fine and thin. They thicken progressively from month 6 to 12 as the follicle fully establishes its blood supply and matures in its new location.
Crown area: Crown hair typically lags the hairline by 4–6 weeks in growth onset. Crown density at 6 months is usually 40–55% of final; by month 12, 85–90%.
Natural lay and direction: The natural movement and lay of transplanted hair becomes more established over months 7–12 as the follicle fully settles in its new position.
What to do at the 6-month point
Month 6 is an appropriate point to resume most styling activities: styling products, gentle heat styling and light colouring are generally safe.
