How chemical relaxers damage hair and follicles
Chemical relaxers (lye and no-lye relaxers) work by breaking the disulfide bonds in the hair shaft, permanently straightening the curl. Applied correctly at appropriate intervals, relaxers primarily affect the hair shaft — not the follicle.
