Alle Artikel →5,000 grafts means 5,000 follicular units — each containing 1–4 hairs. At an average of 2.2 hairs per graft, 5,000 grafts yields approximately 11,000 individual hairs. This is enough to produce very significant coverage across a large bald area.

To put it in context: the average donor zone contains 5,000–7,000 total extractable grafts over a lifetime. A 5,000 graft session in a single procedure uses a very large proportion of the lifetime donor supply — leaving limited resources for future procedures if hair loss continues.
| Norwood Stage | 5,000 grafts covers? |
|---|---|
| III–IV | More than needed — over-graft risk |
| IV–V | Full top coverage possible |
| V | Front + mid-scalp + most of crown |
| VI | Front + mid-scalp; crown requires session 2 |
| VII | Partial coverage only — multi-session required |
A 5,000 graft session is not appropriate for patients who need fewer grafts. Over-extraction for a smaller recipient area unnecessarily depletes the donor zone for future needs.
Donor capacity assessment is essential. Not every patient has 5,000 extractable grafts available. Trichoscopy donor density scanning at consultation determines the actual available supply.

Session length. A 5,000 graft session takes 10–12 hours. This is at the limit of what can be safely performed in a single day while maintaining graft quality. At Hairmedico, sessions above 4,200–4,500 grafts are typically planned as two-day procedures.
Lifetime donor planning. A patient in their 30s who uses 5,000 grafts in a single session may have very limited donor supply if they need a second session at 45. Conservative session sizing in younger patients often produces better long-term outcomes.
Yes — 5,000 grafts is a large session. It is typically only appropriate for patients at Norwood V–VI with significant hair loss across the full top of the scalp. Extracting 5,000 grafts from a typical donor zone uses a substantial portion of the lifetime donor supply.
5,000 grafts typically provides full coverage from the frontal hairline to the crown in a patient with medium scalp size at Norwood V. For patients with larger scalp or Norwood VI, 5,000 grafts may cover the front and mid-scalp well but leave the crown requiring a second session.
At Hairmedico, sessions are capped at 4,500 grafts in a single day to maintain surgical quality throughout a long procedure. Sessions requiring 5,000+ grafts are typically split across two days or planned as a two-session approach spaced 12 months apart.
