نظرة عامة ←The permanence of hair transplant results was established in 1959 by Dr. Norman Orentreich, who demonstrated that hair follicles retain the genetic characteristics of their donor location after transplantation. A follicle from the DHT-resistant donor zone continues to be DHT-resistant after being moved to the recipient zone.

This discovery — donor dominance — underpins every hair transplant procedure performed globally. Over 65 years of clinical data confirms it across tens of millions of procedures. Correctly executed hair transplant produces permanent results.
Transplanted hair ages normally: The transplanted hair will eventually grey, as all hair does with age. It may thin very slightly over decades due to natural biological aging. This is not hair loss recurrence — it is normal ageing.
Native hair continues its loss pattern: The hair surrounding the transplanted zone is not protected by the surgery. DHT continues to miniaturise native follicles unless treated with Finasteride. This is the most important long-term consideration — not the permanence of the transplanted result, but the management of the native hair loss that continues around it.
The interaction between permanent transplanted hair and continuing native hair loss is what makes hairline design and long-term planning so critical at the initial consultation.
Yes. Transplanted hair follicles are taken from the donor zone — genetically resistant to DHT. They retain this resistance after transplantation and produce permanent hair growth. Donor dominance, first described by Orentreich in 1959, is the biological foundation of all hair transplant procedures.
Transplanted hair undergoes temporary shock loss 2–6 weeks after surgery — the hair shaft sheds while the follicle recovers. The follicle then produces new, permanent hair from month 3 onwards. The transplanted hair will not fall out due to pattern baldness.
Possibly — not because transplanted hair fails, but because native hair continues to recede. Patients who lose additional native hair around the transplanted zone may choose a second session to maintain overall density. Finasteride significantly reduces this risk.
