How to Choose a Hair Transplant Clinic
in Istanbul

Guides12 minUpdated April 2026

The Istanbul hair transplant market

Istanbul performs more hair transplants than any other city in the world — an estimated 500,000+ procedures annually. At one end of this market are world-class surgeon-led clinics where the named doctor performs every graft. At the other end are technician-led "hair mills" where a single surgeon nominally oversees 4–8 procedures per day while trained non-physician staff do the actual surgery.

The price gap between these two categories — €800 at the bottom versus €2,000–€3,500 at the top — reflects a genuine quality difference. Understanding which category a clinic falls into before booking is the most important decision in your hair transplant journey.

The 5 questions every patient must ask

1. Will the named surgeon perform every graft?

The most important question. Ask directly: "Will Dr. [name] perform all extractions and all implantations personally, throughout my entire procedure?" The answer should be unambiguous. Many Istanbul clinics have the named surgeon design the hairline only — technicians perform the rest.

2. How many procedures does the clinic perform per day?

A clinic doing 4–8 procedures daily with one surgeon is a technician-led operation. One surgeon cannot perform every graft on 8 patients in a single day. One or two patients per day is the only model compatible with genuine surgeon involvement.

3. What professional body accredits the surgeon?

FUE Europe or ESHRS membership are the recognised standards. These are surgeon-level credentials — not clinic certifications — and are more meaningful for evaluating surgical quality than Ministry of Health registration alone.

4. Can I see 12-month results with graft counts documented?

Any clinic can show impressive results. What matters is documented results at 9–12 months — not 3-month photos, which only show early growth. Ask for the graft count alongside each result.

5. Will I have a personal consultation with the surgeon before booking?

A quality clinic will connect you with the surgeon — not just a coordinator — before any procedure is planned. If the surgeon is only introduced after payment is made, this is a warning sign.

Understanding accreditation types

Turkish Ministry of Health: A baseline legal requirement. All operating clinics must hold this licence. It verifies minimum facility standards but does not verify surgical quality or surgeon credentials.

FUE Europe: A specialist European accreditation body for hair restoration surgeons. Membership requires documented clinical experience and adherence to professional standards. This is a surgeon-level credential and is more meaningful for evaluating surgical quality.

ESHRS: The European Society of Hair Restoration Surgery. Membership indicates ongoing professional engagement and commitment to continuing education.

Dr. Arslan Musbeh at Hairmedico holds FUE Europe membership and Ministry of Health accreditation.

After researching countless clinics, I specifically didn't want a "hair mill." Dr. Arslan is hands-on throughout the entire process. I came from Australia and the experience was seamless.

Dr. Arslan was present throughout the surgery and personally performed the majority of key procedures. His professionalism and dedication made all the difference.

I already see good hair growth after only 17 weeks. The professionalism of the team and facilities was excellent.

Dr. Arslan was incredibly professional — he explained all procedures clearly. The clinic was spotless and the staff were super friendly.

From first contact, communication was prompt, transparent and efficient. My expectations were surpassed by the services and attention I received.

After 5 years of research I chose Hairmedico. Even on a basic package, Dr. Arslan performed the critical incision phase himself.
