Alle artikelen →Body hair transplantation (BHT) is a technique in which hair follicles are extracted from non-scalp donor areas — most commonly the beard, chest, back or legs — and transplanted to the scalp. It is used primarily in patients whose scalp donor zone is insufficient to meet their restoration goals, either due to limited native density, prior over-harvesting, or an extensive recipient area.

BHT is not a standard first-line treatment — it is a supplementary strategy for specific clinical situations. Used appropriately, it can meaningfully expand the total graft count available to a patient who would otherwise be unable to achieve adequate coverage.
Beard follicles produce the hair most similar in calibre and behaviour to scalp hair. When transplanted to the scalp, beard hair tends to grow in a pattern close to normal scalp hair. It is thicker and coarser than chest hair, making it more effective for mid-scalp and crown density. Typical extraction sites: neck, chin, jaw and cheeks. Yield: 500–2,500 grafts depending on beard density.
Chest hair is finer and shorter-cycling than scalp or beard hair — the anagen (growth) phase is shorter, meaning transplanted chest hair may grow only 2–4cm before entering resting phase. This limits its use to areas where shorter, finer coverage is acceptable. It can blend well in the crown zone.
Generally finer and less predictable. Used only when beard and chest supply is exhausted. Results are less consistent due to shorter growth cycles and calibre mismatch with scalp hair.
Body hair transplantation requires specific expertise — the extraction technique must account for the different follicle curvature and density of non-scalp donor sites. Transection rates (damaged grafts) are higher in body hair extraction than scalp FUE when performed by inexperienced surgeons.

Growth outcomes are less predictable: body hair follicles maintain some of their original growth characteristics after transplantation. Beard hair tends to behave well on the scalp; chest and body hair is more variable.
BHT is typically combined with scalp FUE in the same session — using scalp grafts for the hairline and visible zones, and body hair for mid-scalp density or crown fill where calibre mismatch is less apparent.
BHT is appropriate for patients who:
It is not appropriate as a first choice when adequate scalp donor supply is available — scalp donor hair always produces superior, more predictable results.
